Complex geological and tectonic structure and the barrier effect of the northern Elburz predetermined the development of landslides in northern Iran. On the scale of the region the damage caused by landslides is more than damage from earthquakes. From this point of view factors were analyzed contributing to formation and development of landslides in the Sefidrood basin. It was found that the main factor influencing on formation of landslides is the presence of numerous tectonic faults and fractures. In addition, the formation of landslides is also affected by morphometric conditions (angles, exposure, slope, vertical dismemberment) basin. In middle and low mountain areas of the Sefidrood basin tea growing is developed. And this means intensive irrigation and additional burden on the slopes. On the base of abovementioned factors analysis basin assessment was made according to landslide hazard extent.
