Nonlinear actions of elastic medium and their effect on the propagation velocity of elastic waves

Nonlinear reactions of rocks to small and big (final) initial deformations are investigated within the frameworks of non-classical linearized theory. The rocks are simulated as homogeneous compressed media with various elastic potentials. The simple analytical formulas for the calculation of coefficients of nonlinear action are obtained at any homogeneous initial stress condition using quadratic elastic potential and potential such as Murnagan. The coefficients of nonlinear action of some sedimentary rocks from the Mexican Gulf are defined and the effects of the elasticity moduli of the second and the third order in these coefficients and in the velocities of elastic waves are determined.
