Summary
At this level of knowledge of the geological structure and oil and gas potential of the Afghan-Tajik epiplatform orogenic area, we can talk about the following priority areas of work for oil and gas. Due to the presence of overthrusts in the post-salt section of the sections with a displacement amplitude of up to 15-20 km, as well as the presence of AHRP almost throughout the entire wellbore, it is technically difficult and economically unprofitable to search for a hydrocarbon deposit in the central part of the basin.
The discovery of industrial accumulations of natural gas should be associated with the Upper Jurassic Callovian-Oxford deposits in the zones of paleo-elevations. It should be also taken into account the lithofacies features of the Gaurdak Formation, in the absence of which it is possible to expect the migration of hydrocarbon deposits into the overlying Cretaceous-Paleogene deposits.
Keywords: Afghan-Tajik depression, Gaurdak suite, Upper Jurassic, gas
