New atlas of the Caspian Sea: peculiarities of content and scientific-practical significance

The published hydrometeorological atlas of Caspian sea (2014) comprises cartographic artifact that systemizes various information and contemporary knowledge on Caspian sea gathered during many years of researches of the unique nature and resources of the sea. Total volume of the atlas is 300 pages, including seven sections with 353 thematic maps accompanied by scientific-encyclopedic texts, 29 tables and other materials. This article provides brief characteristics of the new atlas. For its content, use of results of the latest surveys, application of computer technology in compilation of the maps and design the atlas stands out by the close inter-relation of the sections, consistency and unity of scientific principles in production and design of the maps, and has great scientific-practical significance.
