On the base of palynologically studied Maikopian deposits along the Islamdagh section of the Gobustan region the main types of forest formations, prevailing during Oligocene, have been distinguished: rain subtropical polydominant mixed coniferous-broad-leafed forest; Mediterranean-type forests with the participation of xerophilic elements; wet peatland forests along seashores and fluvial terraces. The change of vegetation structure, connected with decrease of temperature conditions has been marked in the middle of Late Oligocene.
