Potential of rural tourism and main directions of its use in Islamic Republic of Iran

Iran possesses of good natural-geographic potential for rural tourism development. Mountainous massives, falls, caves, valleys, reserves, situated in Ardebil, East- and West-Azerbaijan ostans territory, mineral and thermal sources, medical mud and lakes located near rural settlements as well as historical-cultural and architectural monuments such as mosques, fortresses, ancient settlements ruins, rock drawings, etc. should be used in tourist industry, which is of great importance for social and economic development of villages and provides the population with workplaces. It should be noted that today in Iran the tourist industry of rural settlements is used insufficiently. In paper the main directions of development of rural tourism in Iran, problems of this branch are analysed, and ways of their decision are offered.
