Cities hold considerable place in population distribu-tion and territorial organization of economic areas. As population number of these cities grow, economic, social and cultural potentiality of them become larger. In the meantime, role of adjacent areas increases in managing employment and developing corresponding service areas. These processes show themselves in Pars ostan, southern part of Islamic Republic of Iran.
The article deals with analysis of population growth and grouping of cities as well as quantitative and qualitative changes that take place in population structure of them within 1976-2006. As population number of cities grows through time, number of the large cities also grows.
