Many views, legends and thoughts have been said about the origin of the name of Gazanchy village up to day. The local villagers note that the village was called Gazanchy as if the initial dwellers of this village were engaged in this profession (making pot – gazan). A group of researchers report that this village was built by a man whose name was Gazan. But some of the researchers show that the name Gazanchy has relation with the old tribe called Bulgar. Others express that this toponym comes from the name of main hero of the legend «Book of Father Gorgud». As to us, Gazanchy (Gazan) is the name of a Turkic tribe. The migration and settling of the tribe called Gazanchy in Azerbaijan took place approximately at the I and II centuries of our era».
