Fluctuations of Caspian Sea level: problems and solutions
Research geologic-survey institute of the State Concern “Turkmengeologiya”, 744036, Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Archabil av., 56

Variations of Caspian Sea level always create ecological and economic problems. They bring to reconstruction of coastal economic mechanism, with which expenses of billions of manats are connected.
Beginning from 1978 the sea approached dry land. Economic-domestic constructions, oil and gas deposits, petroleum storage depots, oil and gas pipelines, purification plants and other polluting objects, which led to ecological disbalance of sea, were flooded and destroyed. Recommendations, connected with reduction, partly, prevention of Caspian Sea catastrophe, are given in this article.
In the history of geological development of Caspian Sea its transgressions and regressions were caused by tectonic movements. That is why the author of the article considers that the study of geological processes has primary significance for forecast of variations of sea level.
The geological-geomorphological investigations, conducted in southeastern coast of Caspian Sea, showed that it is not advisable to construct coastal and waterside objects in sloping, shallow curves, where transgression and regression of sea occur intensively.
We recommend organization of “Scientific-Production Centre” on operational management of Caspian Sea and coastal territory.
