The South Caspian depression (SCD) is the unique tectonic structure in the system of Mediterranean-Alpine geocyncline belt.
According to the new seismic material SCD and earth crust is represented by two-layer dynamically expressed seismic horizons and consists of thick (up to 35 km) series of the sedimentary cover, granitic and basaltic layers by thickness 5-9 km.
At the end of orogenic period Benioff zones acquired, as at the beginning of their evolution, position close to vertical one which is fixed at the recent deep seismic profiles. The compression conditions along some of them were changed by stretch ones.
Basement surface (25-22 km) is distinguished in a form of high amplitude group of discontinuous subparallel seismic reflections. Below 14-18 s it is distinguished a line of accumulation of too weak low frequency and discontinuous seismic events.
Platform upon which is based the sedimentary series can’t be typically nor oceanic, nor continental but must be referred to the specific type concretely for the region of the continental margin.
