South-Caspian megadepression is characterized by unique consolidated crust and thickened (up to 35 km) sedimentary cover.
The structures of external cutoff framing and structures of internal depression are determined as the basic elements within South-Caspian depression according to structural-facial and tectonic peculiarities of different ages complexes of deposits and morphogenic features.
Analysis of geophysical materials due to some peculiarities of regional tectonics of region allows to suggest that the marked uplifts of anti-Caucasian strike connected with transversal dislocations and they depend on wave oscillatory tectonic movements periodically manifested in last geological periods. As a result of all distinguished events there are occurred migration of transversal uplifts in time (from Mesozoic to Upper Pliocene) and in the space. The formation of the most buried uplifts occurred in Mesozoic-Paleogene. Further the growth of structures was continued with some reconstruction of tectonic plan. In the late Pliocene period as a result of transgression these uplifts were shaded by powerful cover of Upper Pliocene and antropogene deposits.
Probably South Caspian depression was formed as a result of manifestation connected with rifting of extensions and subsidences in three directions – latitudinal, sublatitudinal and anti-Caucasus which formed triple combination of regional tectonic blocks. Probably this combination could be responsible for such deep subsidence of this depression.
