Dominant frequencies of soil movement and their influence on the gamma field and the level of volume activity of the subground radon (on the example of the Baku city)

The article compares the parameters of soil characteristics obtained by microtremor measurements with the natural radiation background and radon field for the central part of Baku. As a result of the conducted researches it has been established that the factors such as soil radioactivity, soil type, dominant (resonance) frequencies and the coefficient of amplitude amplification of soil movements impact the radon concentration in the soil. Direct correlation between radon concentration and radioactivity, also between frequency and amplitude of soil movements have been established.In the considered frequency range, the highest amount of radon is observed at dominant frequency of about 10 Hz and at 1,9-2,1 amplification coefficient of amplitude of soil movements. It was noted that the lowest levels of radon concentration and radioactivity are characteristic for sands, but the highest values ​​are for the friable unconsolidated rocks with loam, gravel and clay.
